A notice regarding the impact the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 on cat and dog imports has been published on the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment website and can be accessed via the following link:

Cats and dogs can be imported to Australia under strict conditions designed to manage biosecurity risks. For the import conditions applicable, view the step-by-step guides.

If your country of export does not appear in the list of Group 1, 2, or 3 countries, you will need to prepare your animal using the non-approved country via Group 2 or 3 country step-by-step guide.

You will not require a permit to import a cat or dog from New Zealand or Norfolk Island, however conditions apply.

SUSPENSION OF DIRECT IMPORTATION OF DOGS AND CATS, AND CANINE SEMEN FROM MALAYSIA TO AUSTRALIA

Direct import of cats and dogs from Malaysia into Australia is now suspended. For further information please see the Biosecurity (Suspended Goods—Cats and Dogs Malaysia) Determination 2020.

Malaysia is now considered a non-approved country and cats and dogs from Malaysia must be imported via an approved country. Please follow the step-by-step guides for importing cats and dogs from a non-approved country for further details.
